A Complete Food Safety Management Software: Webinar Highlights
In today’s competitive food industry, maintaining rigorous safety standards while optimizing operational efficiency is paramount – which is why we’ve made a complete food safety management software that does all this and more.
Recently, a webinar presented by Steven Burton, founder and CEO of Icicle Technologies, showcased how the Icicle ERP platform is revolutionizing food safety and quality management for food manufacturers seeking to streamline compliance and quality control processes. Check out just three of the webinar highlights below, or watch the on-demand recording here.
A Complete Food Safety Management Solution with Icicle ERP
Originally developed as a dedicated food safety application, Icicle has evolved into a fully-featured food manufacturing ERP system with an emphasis on comprehensive food safety management, connecting food safety, traceability, and quality assurance (and more) into one system. The platform supports various compliance programs including SQFI, BRC, and FSC 22000.
“Our vision is to be the global leader in food manufacturing software” – Steven Burton
A standout feature of Icicle is its ability to connect documentation across a company and the different parts of the software application. Users can link Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) directly to prerequisite programs and compliance requirements, creating a seamless network of information.
“When you’re in an audit, you can show the auditor your program requirements and SOPs that satisfy those requirements,” Burton explained. “This gives you kind of a tripod of information that makes your audits go much faster and much easier.”
1) Conduct Electronic Inspections and Quality Control Checks
The first advantage demonstrated in the live webinar is the benefit of electronic inspections, which Icicle users can complete on tablets or mobile devices while on the production floor or in the warehouse. Since everything is connected through the food safety management software, during inspections users can assign corrective actions from pre-configured templates, with automatic notifications sent out to the relevant team members. “This is a feature that the auditors absolutely love,” Burton noted.
Similarly, quality control checks can also be done from any secure, internet-enabled device. Icicle users define product and process specifications, set acceptable ranges for measurements, establish pass/fail criteria, and quality control checks can be completed, on the go, with ease. Icicle can even automatically generate Certificates of Analysis based on quality control results.

2) Generate Hazard Analysis with AI Tools for Food Manufacturing
One of the most innovative features available for food safety management software is Icicle’s AI-assisted hazard analysis. Using a large language model, the system can analyze ingredients and suggest potential biological, physical, chemical, and radiological hazards. While the AI (Artificial Intelligence) provides suggestions, users maintain control over the final hazard determinations.
“AI is not 100% reliable. They can hallucinate sometimes. That’s why we don’t automatically assign whatever the AI says. We give you an opportunity to look at it and make the necessary changes,” Burton explained.
The platform guides users through a decision tree based on the relevant prerequisite program – Burton used SQFI in this example – in order to determine how identified hazards should be controlled for compliance.
3) Instant Traceability with Comprehensive Recall Management Software
Another showstopper, Burton showed how Icicle’s recall management functionality demonstrates the power of its integrated approach. When initiating a recall (mock or real), the system automatically analyzes inventory transactions and shipping records to generate a complete recall report in seconds.
“Icicle is going in and it’s looking at all of the various inventory transactions, the shipping records, and it pulls together a complete recall report for you,” Burton explained. “In this case, there was organic coconut oil that was used in the chocolate liquor, which in turn was used in the coconut bar. You can see exactly where everything is, with quantities outstanding color-coded to indicate whether action is needed.”
The system also maintains notification history, showing all customers requiring notification and executing mass balance calculations essential for recall documentation.
Real-World Implementation: See Icicle ERP in Action
During the webinar, Maschanka Fernandez from Snow Cap, a leading BC bakery and foodservice distributor, shared her experience implementing Icicle:
“The transition to using this software was really smooth. Everything was pretty centralized and the user interface is very simple and intuitive. Currently, we use it for so many things: SOPs, supplier assessments, quality checks, inventory management, formula creations…It’s been so helpful in our audits especially. Icicle just made it so much easier having all our documents together in one place.”
The Icicle ERP system represents a significant advancement in food safety and quality management technology. By combining comprehensive compliance tools, electronic inspection capabilities, hazard analysis, and full traceability in one platform, it offers food manufacturers an integrated solution to streamline operations while maintaining the highest safety standards.
“The functionality related to food safety and quality management is quite extensive in Icicle,” Burton emphasized. “I think the big advantage to doing it in a database-driven system like Icicle is that if you make a change to something in your HACCP program, you just have to regenerate your HACCP plan and everything will be updated.”
