Barcode Software Systems Power Affordable Traceability Upgrades with Icicle ERP
Icicle ERP’s barcode software system for food and beverage manufacturers is getting better and better. It’s just one part of our end-to-end traceability solution that combines all aspects of a food business – food safety, vendor management, production, logistics, maintenance, sales, and more – into one unified platform.
We love simple barcodes and scanners because they are one of the most affordable ways for companies of all sizes to turbocharge their traceability chain and meet the requirements of customers and regulators. This year, Icicle ERP won awards and rave reviews for its traceability power – here are some updates.
Achieve End-to-End Traceability with Simple GS1 Barcode Software Systems and Scanners
1D and (the superior) 2D barcodes printed on labels are a basic and critical part of the global traceability chain. Most multinational companies across all manufacturing sectors use barcode labels that comply with the GS1 Traceability Standard, a global barcoding framework that standardizes practices between industries, logistics systems, and companies all along the global supply chain.
With these simple barcode labels, manufacturers across all industries can gain supply chain visibility and pass that data along to their customers. That’s why, as we’ve covered before on this blog, GS1-compliant barcodes are one of the most affordable and achievable ways to upgrade traceability systems. Using simple technologies that are widely available, manufacturers can use barcode labels to carry forward all sorts of food safety, quality, and other compliance data through from farm to fork.
The key is maintaining the granular level of detail necessary for traceability – down to the lot code level and lower – all the way through from receiving to shipping and beyond. For that you need software, and Icicle ERP is specifically designed for the food industry so you can manage the complex hierarchies of barcodes for all inventory items throughout all stages of the production process or logistics journey.
Streamline Logistics Workflows with Barcode Scanners
It starts at the very first step of the traceability chain at receiving. Icicle users can scan in new items and generate receiving labels, beginning a chain of inventory transactions that are constantly updated as the item moves through one or more facilities (and consumed in production runs). Icicle will even show an alert for allergens on the scanner, making it easier to avoid cross-contamination with the use of its barcode software system.
Icicle ERP features are developed collaboratively with our users so we can deliver the best solution for the unique needs of food and beverage manufacturers. When we introduced scanner integrations, it was important that the feature be available to users across a wide range of devices and manufacturers. That’s why Icicle ERP supports barcode scanning devices from DataLogic, Adesso, Honeywell, Janam, Zebra, and more.
No matter what supported device is used, Icicle’s barcode software systems can pick up wide varieties of lot code formats and even automatically calculate best-before dates from barcodes. With all this data together, Icicle delivers a complete picture of your inventory in real-time and enables blazingly fast warehouse management.
BarTender Integration Customizes Labels Even More While Maintaining Traceability Data
BarTender is a labeling software that food and beverage manufacturers can use to customize their label design according to their exact needs. We launched an integration with BarTender so that our users could take advantage of their easy-to-use features. Last year, we enhanced that integration for even more traceability control; Icicle users can send granular traceability information – from the lot code to the exact production line – to BarTender automatically to create a seamless flow of high-quality data in a unified barcode software system.
As the BarTender team points out, inefficient labeling cuts into profitability all too easily. Labeling errors of all kinds lead to wasted time and resources as labels must be removed, reprinted, etc. In the meantime, backlogs build up for production or in the supply chain as a whole, taking up valuable inventory space. Furthermore, problems with labels continue down the supply chain if they’re not addressed right away, leading to reduced supply chain visibility and passing along the risk to your customers.
For food and beverage manufacturers, labels are more than a packaging issue: product labels communicate health and safety information to consumers (a highly regulated aspect of food safety compliance) and barcode labels are a basic and critical component of the global traceability chain. That means that labeling errors have an especially serious impact because even miniscule mistakes can pose a risk to public health. Undeclared allergens are the most common cause of recalls worldwide; they’re also the most preventable.
The challenge of managing labels is especially risky for growing companies that may be expanding into new markets, and therefore managing more compliance requirements along with new labels and variations. That’s where Icicle (and BarTender) come to the rescue with streamlined barcode software systems to manage labeling with complex hierarchies and production processes.
G2 Awards Icicle ERP Another Badge for High-Performing Barcode Software Systems
Thanks to our users and their stellar reviews, Icicle ERP ranked in G2’s quarterly market report once again, this time in the category for barcode software systems. We’re proud to add “Small Business High Performer, Americas Fall 2023” to our growing collection of recognitions from the software marketplace leader (you can check out our profile here).
In the latest G2 review, Tak Y. wrote that with Icicle ERP:
“The more data you put in, the more you get out of it. QA, traceability, organized customer data (what they ordered last and which SKUs they carry etc), shipping and receiving, easy recall procedure and more. Also, appreciate the support team. Super knowledgeable and helpful.”
When G2 asked about the overall benefit of Icicle ERP to Tak’s business, they responded: “Being able to accumulate, store and access data from one place, rather than having 5-6 different programs to access and manually transfer data in between. It saves us time as well as labour costs.”
