Icicle ERP’s Award Winning Software for Food Manufacturers Draws Local Media
Just before the new year, Icicle Technologies’s software for food manufacturers was honoured to be recognized as a top software and technology provider by Food Logistics magazine for the second year in a row. The latest award win drew the attention of British Columbia’s local business and tech scenes, with recent profiles published in BC Business magazine and Richmond News, as well as national publications like MRO Magazine.
The article from Rushmila Rahman at BC Business, “Richmond-based Icicle Technologies has Food Safety Down to a Recipe,” follows the company’s origins to show how it has developed an ERP solution that is perfect for food and beverage manufacturers, such as two local superstar businesses TMRW Foods and Big Mountain Foods (which recently won a number of awards at the BCFB gala).
Rahman interviewed Icicle ERP creator Steven Burton, who explained how Icicle’s sophisticated automation technology can be used by everyone at a production facility to ensure top safety and quality standards. “We have probably the most advanced system in the world for helping users identify biological, chemical, physical, radiological hazards, with a database of about 1.4 million products,” Burton told Rahman, who summarized:
So if you’re not aware of the risks associated with, say, powdered organic guava, you could type that in and Icicle will analyze the best practices for you to consider. It automates temperature checks and can even tell you which lot code of cream to put in your recipe to make sure the oldest item in inventory gets used first. As Burton puts it, the company’s systems ultimately help food manufacturers manage rising costs and thin margins.

The BC Business article also mentions Icicle Technologies’ other recent award wins, such as the 2022 AgTech Breakthrough award for ERP software of the year just a few months prior.
The Richmond News piece by Valerie Leung, “Richmond Food Safety Tech Company Wins International Award” – which includes an interview with Burton, a long-time resident of Richmond, BC – further emphasizes the importance of the timing of the recognition from Food Logistics, only weeks after major regulatory changes were announced for hundreds of food manufacturers in North America. The new US FDA Traceability Rule, which was finalized in November and will come into effect over the next three years, makes it even more important for food and beverage processors to leverage specialized software for food manufacturers to achieve compliance and ensure the safety of the global food supply chain.
Since Food Logistics is a publication focused on the cold food and beverage sector and therefore to the supply chain as a whole, their recognition is all the more appreciated given the leaps that Icicle has made in the last years to deliver an end-to-end solution for food and beverage manufacturers.
