RICHMOND, BC, March 1 2016 − Canadian company Burton Software Inc. has been selected to participate in SVG Partners’ THRIVE Seedcamp in Salinas, California next month. Burton was selected for its work on the Icicle, the award-winning food safety management system from over 200 applicants in 36 countries worldwide.
The THRIVE Accelerator program is a highly selective mentorship and investment program for technology-enabled startups in AgTech and FoodTech, focusing on bringing together the best innovative technologies that will significantly increase or transform agriculture from the farm to fork.
The World Health Organization estimates that there are over 600 million cases of foodborne illness every year that result in 2M deaths. Almost one third of deaths are children under the age of five. As the world faces an increasingly complex global food supply chain, along with sustainability challenges, food safety has become a paramount issue for the food industry.
Technology plays a critical role in addressing this need. Icicle is part of Burton Software’s mission to advance food safety automation by creating innovative solutions that help companies make food safer for everyone. Created in Vancouver, BC, Canada, Icicle is a technological innovation supporting Canada’s standing as a model of food safety excellence.
Participation in THRIVE shines a light on Burton Software’s position as a leader in Canada’s AgTech space and will provide the company with the opportunity to connect with other innovators, entrepreneurs, researchers, technology corporations, and industry leaders.
